Review of Maritime Race Weekend!!

Today was the main event of Maritime Race Weekend.  I opted to run the 5k after I couldn't run the 1/2.  It was another misty, overcast day....perfect for running.  I met up with Matt and Heather and we made our way to the start line.  Heather and I kind of coordinated our outfits...unknowingly...well our footwear anyways.

switched socks.  LOL

The porta potty line was HUGE...I was so glad I didn't have to go.  Heather, on the other hand, was not as lucky.

All of the races started at the same time so you can imagine how busy the start line was.  There were 2 guys standing behind me talking about their 10k finishing times...I turned around and said "you suck".  Then I thought...oh god...what if they thought I was serious...so I turned back around and said "I was kidding!"LOL

The 5k course was a great course along the ocean.  You could hear the waves hitting the shore as you ran.  It was an out and back course...which I like as it motivates me when I hit the turn around point and see runners still coming.

I was about 250 meters from the finish line when the course rounded a corner.  I knew there were 2 gals on my heels but I felt I could hold them off on the home stretch.  One problem...they cheated and totally cut the corner.  This made me mad and I sprinted past them...which obviously made them mad because then the 3 of us were in a sprint to the finish. Unfortunately they passed me as we crossed. I graciously said "Nice Race." at the end and they thanked me for the final push.  I picked up my totally cool medal!!!

 

Oh....and did I tell you?  There were pirates at the finish line that you could grab pictures with.  Tell me that one of these, doesn't look like Johnny Depp????

As soon as I got home, I checked Atlantic Chip for the race results.  I finished in 27.13 chip time, 4th in my age class and 22nd overall.  If those 2 gals hadn't cut the corner....I know I could have had 2nd!!!!  But I will be positive that I had a personal best race on a great course....at a great event!!!

And my knee you ask???  Well....the one that has been bothering me was just fine.  The right one??  Not so good.  I am currently sitting with ice(well a bag of corn) on it....and it's aching!!!!  IBprofin and ice the rest of the weekend as I have another race next weekend!!!!!

Great race organizers!  Sign me up for next year!!!!
