A 5k for a Cause

So I misspoke yesterday, I wasn't running the 5k to test the compression socks from 2XU, 2XU is sponsoring a runner named Sebastien as he runs across Canada in his fight against Diabetes.  I didn't know this until I showed up this morning, along with the news cameras. LOL

He is truly an inspiration to anyone who is setting goals.  As I spoke with him, he mentioned how it was a dream he had that then became a goal and how he worked through all the baby steps to get where he is today.  Another one of the runners was joking that he started at the wrong end of Canada as he started in NFLD where they have been sit super hard with snow!!!  If you get a chance, check out CanadaRuns on Instagram or Outrun Diabetes on Facebook.

Check out my pace.....7:10/km...This is what happens to my pace when the IT band is killing me starting at 2.5k.  I also blame the route.  The organizer ran us through icy and hilly trails, then a really hilly route on icy sidewalks (thanks to Mother Nature last night).  I came home and couldn't walk as I was in sooooo much pain...IT band + weak hips/glutes = NOT a fun run!  PS...it's really hard to smile at every corner for a camera when you are running uphill and have ITB pain!!!

This is what my afternoon is going to entail!
My physiotherapist  is part of the TTP and he emailed me right away.  "Did you do your glute exercises before running."  I sheepishly had to say no....I didn't.  Why are these exercises so hard for me to do on a consistent basis?  I should be able to do them watching tv...and definitely before I run!  I need to take them seriously and put them in my schedule!!  I need to show up and do the work!!!  No miracle is going to happen and fix this....I have to do it!!!!

As for the socks....love them!  I am going back and buying the pink.  The one thing I really like about them is that they hit me under the knee.  My ProCompression need to be pushed down as they hit right across my knee and are uncomfortable!  Way to go 2XU!!!!

  1. It's pretty awesome that he's running across Canada! Can't wait to watch it all happen. My friend ran across Canada a few years back for "Take Me Outside" - some amazing stories and adventures he had!

    1. I said to Sebastien "What a great way to see the countryside." He commented "Yup...like every single tree."

  3. IT Bands are such a design flaw in the human body lol. It seems like everyone has had issues with them once in their life! I hope yours loosens up soon!
