Sunday Runday - not so fun

Phew....after yesterday's run, I had no idea how I was going to do today's scheduled long run....13k.

Todays running outfit was courtesy of Winners for the tank/sports bra and Lulu for the speed shorts!

Ignore the mess in the background...LOL
I started out early knowing that today would be another scorcher.
This was near the end...and when I started
the humidity was reading 98%.
The run this morning was very difficult....I pushed myself yesterday in the heat and I just wanted to get time on my feet.  My pace was very, very slow but I was only going for distance.  The first 6k were okay, the second 6k required a lot of mental coaching and walking...my body was hurting in every muscle.  As it turned out, I could only do 11k and then I felt my knee starting to give me a bit of pain.  I was still about 2k from home so I took my time walking home and sat on one of the many benches to relax.  As the saying goes....I took time to smell the roses.
Walking up the front steps, my legs were in a lot of pain and I decided to try an ice bath to aid in healing.  As I removed my socks, I found the largest blood blister I've ever had.  I quickly text Heidi to ask if I should burst it.  Her answer was NO...leave it to heal.  It feels really weird to touch it!

Compression socks are now on to help my calf muscles but I am a bit worried that I won't be able to walk tomorrow.  Thankfully my next run, 8k, is not until Wednesday.

Total mileage this week:
Thursday - 5k
Saturday - 8k
Sunday - 11k
TOTAL - 24k

Next week my long run jumps up to over 14k...note to self....do not run a race on Saturday!!!
Have a great week...I'm on vacation starting on Thursday and can't wait.!

  2. Your blister pic made my stomach go all whirly....lol. When those babies burst, you get a sock like the one I brought back from Boston! ;) Hope your knee is feeling better today :D

  3. Owch! Let that thing heal! I always believe in letting my feet heal or they'll only keep getting worse! Good luck and awesome mileage (kilomage?)!

  4. Ouch! But neat too :-) I started buying my running shoes a 1/2 size bigger than I normally wear and I rarely get blisters anymore, even on long runs! :-)
