Workplace Challenge & The Bachelor

So this weekend I was thinking that there had to be a way that I could carry my healthy goals into my work environment.  You all know how it is, everyone eats/drinks like crazy over the holidays and then looks to try and jump back on the fitness wagon.  Well...I came up with 4 fitness challenges that I presented to the group at work.  I put sign up sheets on the bulletin board and let people sign up for what they wanted.  Here is what we are doing:

  • Challenge #1 - We will each be given a pedometer to track our daily steps.  Our goal is to walk from Yarmouth to Sydney, NS.  This is approximately 718,000 steps, taking the average of 1,000 steps per kilometer.  15 people have signed up for this challenge.
  • Challenge #2 - Daily Water Challenge.  After one of the TTP members got on my case about my lack no existence of water intake, I decided I needed support.  The group is challenged to drink 6-8, 8oz glasses of water each day.  Once a week, I will report on everyone's intake and we are going to try to fill a water bottle that is posted on the bulletin board.  Day #1, I had 3 glasses...today I only got 1. Boo!!  There are 15 people signed up for this challenge.
  • Challenge #3 - Get Active Challenge.  3 days per week, the group is challenged to do 15 minutes of physical activity. ie) taking the stairs up the 8 flights instead of the elevator.  On day #1, a co-worker and I did the 8 flights with 10 jumping jacks every 2 flights.  My legs were sore at the end and I am excited to slowly add more exercises between floors.  I think there are 10 people signed up for this challenge
  • Challenge #4 - The Healthy Snack Challenge.  7 people signed up for this challenge.  Each member was assigned 1 week for the next 7 weeks.  The member has to choose 1 day during their given week to make a healthy snack for everyone in the group.  I'm excited to get some healthy snack ideas from the others in the group.  My week is in February and I'll be hitting up pinterest for snack ideas.
Okay....who out there watches The Bachelor???  It is my guilty pleasure.  I'm also known for checking out Reality Steve and his Bachelor spoilers.  It's kind of like reading the last page of a novel which I also do. :-(  I already know the outcome, but am excited to see how it gets to where it does.
Does anyone out there have a favorite Bachelor or Bachelorette?  Do you think this really works at finding a 'forever mate'?  I don't have a favorite...but I can tell you that I did not like the season of Ben.  I also don't think it works...but it makes for cheesy tv time.  LOL  Please meet this years bachelor!  He plays soccer and has an accent!
I wonder if he'd come run with the TTP!
Once again, mother nature decided to give us chilly temperatures...I mean we went from +9 at 6am to -20 at 6pm.  That means slippery streets and cold air.  I chose not to run tonight and will instead try to get a run in tomorrow night!  Until then, make a commitment to be the best you can be!!!

  1. I enjoyed the Bachelor, both Kenny and I watched it lol. I like how he weeded out the drama queens on the first night.
I should join your water challenge because I definitely don't get enough!

  2. I got this awesome water bottle from Shoppers one day. I just happened to go in on day they were giving stuff away (samples and promos) and it was all packed in a water bottle. I LOVE this bottle. I use it almost everyday, and my water consumption has increased drastically since I started using it. I don't know why? I think it might be the sippy spout... it's easy to get through 2 or 3 bottles during the work day.

Try adding something to your water. I used to keep a lemon in the office fridge and I added a slice to my water every day.

I had a run planned for this morning, but we have a wind chill of -31, AND we ran out of oil so we have no hot water for a post-run shower. I think I'll wait!

  3. I'm trying to focus more on drinking water, too. I saw a really cool thing on Pinterest where you take water bottles and label the time on them, so you know how much to drink each hour, if that makes sense. So instead of ounces, you're counting hours!

  4. I love the Bachelor, my sis and I have a standing date on Mondays to watch it together! Aside from coconut water after a run and the occasional Pepsi, the only thing I drink is water. But I am very weird about it........I always, always have it with me (I start to panic when I am out and run to the store), it has to be ice cold and it has to be Smart Water. I probably drink about 3-4 of the large bottles a day this time a year and more when its warm out! :-)

    1. I wish I had your dedication to water...it just never happens. Now if I could drink my sugary lemonade all day...that is a different story. LOL Hopefully the workplace challenge gets me into a groove!

  5. I usually drink a ton of water a day.....it helps me to leave it out at room temperature though.

My work is doing a weight loss team challenge as a part of the new year Resolution trend. Should be fun!
