It's been a crazy busy week. Budgets and month end at work have made for 12 hour days and weekend work. Booooo! This week was week #1 of Hal Higdon's Novice 1/2 marathon training program. This week is low mileage....thank god...because I'm just getting back into the swing of things.
Here is a recap:
Monday - called for Stretch and Strengthen - in my books this means 8-minute Abs (see prior post for link), my IT band stretches, 8-minute arms, and clam shells.
Tuesday - called for a 4.8k run - I did 4.25. My legs felt so heavy....like I was running with tree trunks (as Heather would say). She says I have to remember to hydrate during the day. I find this soooooo hard to do as hydrating means frequent pee breaks at work...and I just don't have the time.
Wednesday - 3.2k run or cross - this was a long day at the office...so unfortunately this did not get completed.
Thursday - 4.8k - I did some stretching and such...but no run.
Friday - called for rest - I did 4.0k at what I'm calling 1/2 marathon pace = SLOW. When I'm running along and it becomes tough, I reach for my go-to song that pulls me through. Watch the below video and let me know if it gives you goose bumps. If he can do this....I can run another kilometer...no sweat!!!

Saturday - 30 min cross - I took Indy for a long walk on the trail....we are so lucky to have such a beautiful trail within quick access. We do have to contend with the possibility of coyotes and therefore I studied this poster at great length today.

I also bought a new workout tool.....a weighted hula hoop. This one is 1.5 lbs. The girls at work were raving about it and I thought I'd give it a try. The sales person at Spartan said to work up to 10 minutes a day or else I'd bruise myself. Let me tell you....he was right. Not even 2 minutes into my first 'workout' and my abs were tender...it's harder than you think.
Sunday - 6.4km - Wow...complete without pain! There tons of runners, walkers, and bikers on the trail. I was Miss.Social as Heather would say....waving and saying Hi to all who passed. What a gorgeous day for a run....the first t-shirt run of the year!! Bring on the warm weather...my body seems to thrive in it.
With busy days, comes quick and easy meals. After my run on Friday, I came home and made a quick supper of a grilled cheese sandwich and a pear. So simple...yet so yummy! There is something about a grilled cheese that makes me feel like a kid again.
So there you have it....week #1 is under my belt. Next week is simply a repeat....thank god. I can do this again...no problem. And it looks like warmer weather...LOVE IT!!
What race are you training for?
Great post! I am so proud of all your hard work. :)
